How it works
A long-session format with points and exploration.
If you look at the community, there are a lot of really good and interesting expansions and add-ons and its a shame to not use them or limit yourself to just a few of them. But the ordinary game rules was not designed to support this expanded environment, so I looked out to the community to come up with a solution to play the game the way I wanted it to work, with a lot of added extras.
I found some ideas and expanded those to suit my own style of gaming and Mega-Talisman was born. We play 2nd edition with so many expansions and boards that we cant even fit them onto four desks put together. Some may find this totally unplayable, not fun, or even frightening. But we love it.
How do we do it? Well, the changes are few but the style is greatly changed. First we always set a time limit to the game, which usually is in the vicinity of 9-12 hours. Then every player is handed a points chart. The game could well end before the limit runs out since we still keep the rule that you can win the game using the ordinary rules (and those from expansions like Tournament and Atlantis).
But, and this is the important part, the winner is not necessarily the one finishing the game. The winner is player who has accumulated the most points during the game. If you look at the points chart you see that you get points for visiting expansions and more points if you achieve important stuff related to the expansion. This encourages exploration and creates a frantic need in players to travel and really experience all the fun and dangerous ways.
True, the physical interaction of characters will shrink a lot. Still, when new pathways open up most players will try to walk that way sometimes creating a crowd. This will to some look like there are several players playing a solo version of Talisman, and that might be true, but we take great joy in the atmosphere of the game and enjoy watching strange and interesting things happening to other players as they explore the world of Talisman.
I hope this information has encouraged you to try our Mega-Talisman way of playing. Below you will find all the documents you need to try Mega-Talisman. All you have to do now is download and print all the expansions.
